More About Me

Lets learn more about who YaadiGurl is.

I am YaadiGurl!
#Up&NotGivingUp

I recently did an interview and my answer just brought back so many memories about who I am creatively authentically unique me and the real reason why I started cooking. Which was the motivation I need to continue and keep going.

So here we go.

I am not just a cook/chef but I am passionate about what I do and LOVE IT.

YAADI GURL FLAVA came about because I love food. Like literally. Both my parents have work in the food industry at some point in their lives and they can cook!

There was a time I was just interested in eating and not knowing how to cook. My mom

called me out on that in the most embarrass Jamaican parent way. Queue all the emojis.

After that I started taking an interest in learning how to cook. It wasn’t the best then, but

it was a start.

I migrated to the States almost 10 years ago. When I moved here, I was living with my

dad, and he would do almost all the cooking. Talked about a spoiled young adult. LOL.

In those early years Food Network was my life. Morning, noon, and night. It made me

wanted to create, experiment with food and flavors. Mixing my Jamaican heritage with

the American’s.

Fast forward, my mom was murdered, and I was left with a lot of unanswered questions

and needed an outlet to cope. Cooking became that outlet for me. Not just cooking but

cook her recipe and experiment with flavors just has she did. Not going with the status

quo. I have said this a lot and it is apart of who I am now. “Cooking Is An Outlet.

So, I started cooking more and not for self but for others. Which is a joy see others

enjoying my food and my flavors. Which is not the norm, I like to take the most opposite

of foods and bringing them together to be deliciousness.

In 2019, I took the bold step and YaadiGurl Flava was born. I starting to share my food

on social media and taking on clients. So far working on the food truck and doing a meet

and greet was the best experiences so far and here we are 3 years later.

I never want to get ahead of myself because I'm only here because of God. He is in the driver seat. God have used cooking to literally save my live after my mom died. I need that

outlet. Now, I cook with grace and mercy because sis be experiment. LOL. Some hit and

some fail, but I keep coming back to the kitchen with boldness. Just how Jesus have died

on the cross for our sins and now the vail have been torn and we have that boldness to

come before the throne of God to obtain grace and mercy in time of need. Hebrews 4:12-

16.

Some of my recipe comes to me in dreams or time with God or just pops in my head

which, I believe is the Holy Spirit.

On my social media pages, mostly on Instagram. I try to post scriptures on my story

before anything else or have gospel music playing in my cooking classes.

This business is God’s, I am just the vessel God chooses to use to bring it to the world.

Ever since I was little, I love to encourage others. I could even encourage myself when I was down. So who inspire me.

Myself, this I am not giving up mentally that I have. Which I know is God-given.

For sure my Mom and Dad and then I would say Food Network and other cooks/chefs out there like me.

Lets talk about being a mother and entrepreneur. Being a Mompreneur, (a woman who sets up and runs her own business in addition to caring for her young child or children. - Google) the social media term, is not easy. Having a supporting

community to help is so necessary also if you can include them that would be great. Kids

have some amazing ideas. Pick the noggins and see. I have proven this.

I love love what I do, for real. Okay!

I love what I do because I get to be creatively authentically unique me and express myself with my own flavors without limits.

So we are coming to the end of this blog post but for I go here are a few more things about me.

My name is Dayna but when it comes to food, I’m YaadiGurl. I am wife of 7 years

and mom to a fearless 6-year old boy. I am an angel mom of 3; Everley, Emerald and

Tiny “TB” Baby and I take joy in honoring and celebrating them.

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. 4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
